SPALDING GETS ON TRACK VS. ST. PAUL'S

After a slow start to the season, the Spalding field hockey team
found it's footing by shutting out St. Paul's 3-0 Monday behind
goals from Kelsey Bonner, Jess Bates and  Andrea Scardina.

Emma Spencer assisted on two of those goals while Jess
assisted on the other. Leyan deBorja made two saves and Vicci
Alexander turned away one.

SPALDING TOPPLES ST. PAUL'S 1-0

Despite out-shooting their opponents 20-4 and dominating
most of the game, the Cavaliers found themselves in a tight
game Wednesday against St. Paul’s on a blustery fall
afternoon.  Jess Bates finally put Spalding ahead on an early
second half goal on a feed from Emma Spencer.  The
defensive unit did a good job of limiting the Gator’s trips into
the circle, giving Leyan deBorja a fairly light day with four saves.

SPALDING UP-ENDED BY #6 BRYN MAWR

Spalding played a determined Bryn Mawr team to a stalemate
for the first 30 minutes with a great defensive first half, but
could not sustain it through out the entire 60-minute game,
falling 0-2 to the Mawrtians.  This is the second consecutive
lost to a ranked team for the Cavaliers, having been shutout by
#7 NDP 1-0 on Friday.

SPALDING WINS THRILLING OVERTIME VICTORY OVER
SEVERN 1-0

After a hard fought defensive game, in which neither team
scored after 60 minutes of regulation, it came down to seven
players on both sides to decide the out-come.  Within the first
few minutes of sudden death overtime, Spalding’s Jess Bates
sent a crossing pass to Taylor McCaffery, who sent the ball
behind Severn’s last defender to a streaking Christine Galligan
who placed it perfectly around Severn’s goalie for the decisive
win.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Both teams got off to a great start against St. Paul’s on
Monday, with varsity posting a 3-0 shutout while JV easily
handled the Gators 6-1.

Roland Park Country School was another story.  Again, the
varsity shutout the Reds for the 60 minutes of regulation, only
to fall in the last few minutes of overtime 1-0.
JV hung in there and notched a 1-0 win despite having several
goals disallowed.

And then came Friday night under the lights against arch-rival
St. Mary’s.

JV led off with an exciting (almost heart stopping) victory,
pulling out a  3-2 win.

Varsity, led by an inspired offense that repeatedly challenged
their GK, finally broke through with 16 minutes left in the game,
and the defense, which played exceptional all week did their
thing, shutting out another opponent for the 1-0 victory.

#6 SPALDING TAKES #2 BRYN MAWR
TO THE BRINK IN TOURNAMENT

After 60 minutes of regulation and two 10 minute overtime
periods played in a steady rain, Spalding fell to #2 seeded Bryn
Mawr in a shoot-out 2-1.  Jess Bates scored for the Cavilers in
the first half, and Bryn Mawr came roaring back with a goal of
their own early in the second.  The score remained tied at one
apiece for the remainder of regulation and throughout the two
over-time periods. "Our girls played great, one of their best
games this season and I couldn't be prouder of them", said
Coach Brady. "As a fan, this had to be a fantastic game to
watch, but as a coach it's difficult to see your players work so
hard and put their hearts out there and come up short, it shows
the character this team has."

ARCHBISHOP SPALDING AND SETON KEOUGH RAISE
OVER $500 IN THEIR ANNUAL "PLAY4THE CURE" GAME

Spalding and Seton Keough teamed up for a spirited rivalry
which saw the Cavaliers come out on top on their "senior day"
1-0, but the score was secondary to the cause. With both
teams decked out in pink, they handed out "play4thecure"
braclets as fans entered the stadium and collected donations
for the Susan G Komen Foundation.  Over $500 was raised for
breast cancer awareness as both teams finished their regular
season play.  Spalding meets Bryn Mawr and Keough takes on
Mt de Sales in tournament play which begins Tuesday.

SPALDING TAKES DOWN ARCH-RIVAL ST. MARY'S IN
OVERTIME 2-1

With just over a minute elapsed in over-time, Christine Galligan
put in the winning shot off a pass from Jess Bates to seal the
victory in Spalding's closing conference game.
